Centering on WATER WAYS, the auction and virtual Benefit will highlight change-makers that are leading conversations and actions around water use, conservation, management, maintenance, and stewardship in communities across the country. The BENEFIT, held on April 6 at 7:30 PM ET, will honor YVONNE MCCASKILL, Coordinator of the Century City Triangle Neighborhood Association, and KEVIN SHAFER, Executive Director, Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District, whose pioneering work in water management in Milwaukee have become national exemplars of responsive, community-driven water management systems, and have been key partner's in CALL's Watermarks project. Join us to enjoy a conversation between Yvonne and Kevin moderated by landscape architect WALTER HOOD, a commissioned community-sourced sound map Geographies of the Ear by composer KAMALA SANKARAM, music by PHYLLIS CHEN and more fun and festivities. 

The AUCTION, live from March 9 at 8:00 AM ET to April 7 at 8:00 PM ET, features a range of experiences that will allow bidders to engage with artists, scientists, and urban designers working on the front lines of addressing climate change. From a two-night stay at a carbon-neutral development in the Catskills to a walking tour of the L.A. river's revitalization projects with Mia Lehrer to a conversation about New Mexico's 400-year-old irrigation system with local farmer and author Stanley Crawford, bid on items to connect with leading thinkers, makers and organizers in the climate sector while supporting the work of City as Living Laboratory.

Our Honorees & Event Presenters

Honorees

Yvonne McCaskill is the Coordinator of the Century City Triangle Neighborhood Association, a resident-led, all volunteer, grassroots organization with the goal to organize and sustain vibrant communities. One strategy Yvonne is particularly involved in is to promote environmental stewardship, justice and equity in underserved communities. Prior to Century City, she spent 30 years with the Milwaukee Public Schools system after ten years in the private sector, always working to mobilize community resources with the mission of improving the quality of life for residents of underserved communities. 


She received her bachelors in education from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and masters in education from Marion University. She is a 2016 Milwaukee Business Journal’s Women of Influence recipient. She is active in her community, serves on several nonprofit and community Boards, and volunteers in her church and various community/educational institutions



Kevin Shafer has served as the executive director of the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District since 2002. He is recognized for providing national and regional leadership in implementing grey and green infrastructure. He has advocated and implemented a regional flood management program, a renewable energy program and a private property inflow and infiltration program. He advanced climate change adaptation for MMSD with an aggressive program to convert to renewable fuels, install green infrastructure, and preserve floodplains. His leadership has brought MMSD recognition from almost every major award in the industry, including the 2012 U.S. Water Prize.


He holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in civil engineering with a specialty in water resources from the University of Illinois and the University of Texas respectively. He is the former president of the National Association of Clean Water Agencies. Currently, he is the chair of the U.S. Water Alliance Board of Directors and is the co-chair of the Water Research Foundation (WRF) Board.
