An east Asian conifer that made its way to us through Ozzie Johnson and Lisa Bartlett. These are trees that can slowly reach 75' tall in the wild but usually are much shorter in Raleigh gardens. The shallowly fissured bark of older trees sometimes reveals salmon-pinkish brown tones underneath. This is a dioecious species so a male and female plant are needed to make the reddish fruit and seed. The name commemorates a German botanist, Roger Pilger.
