Our Origin Story
30 years ago, a group of friends gathered around pizza to discuss a way to make it easier to connect volunteers with nonprofits addressing critical needs in the community. Their vision led to Boston Cares' founding on February 20, 1991. We're excited to celebrate 30 years of service to the Greater Boston community, made possible by all of the volunteers and partners who have served with us over the years. Since 1991, our volunteers have given 1.3 MILLION hours towards closing the educational and economic opportunity gaps, addressing hunger & homelessness, serving health & wellness needs, supporting environmental and cultural vibrancy, and more. We appreciate all of your support!
